February Party Ideas

February means Valentine's Day and romance. It's also leap year in 2012.

When you use National Days and weeks for your party theme, you could some fundraising for them as well.

• Mardi Gras Party - if you can't make Mardi Gras in Sydney, hold your own party.
   
• Summer - February is the last month of summer so enjoy the heat while it lasts. Have a Hawaiian Party, barbecue, or beach party. Or celebrate beach culture with the anniversary of the Bondi Beach Surf Lifesaving club, which was established on 6 February 1906.
   
• 7 February 2012 is Charles Dickens' 200th birthday.
   
• Looking forward to winter? Escape the heat by imagining somewhere colder - 13 February is the anniversary of Mawson Station in the Australian Antarctic Territory, where the average February maximum temperature is 1.3 degrees below zero.
   
• Valentine's Day Parties (14th) - Whether you are in a couple or happily single, there are plenty of options for a Valentine's Day party.
   
• Chinese New Year is in January/February each year. In 2012 it was on 23 January. In 2013 it will be on Sunday 10 February.
   
• Leap Year - Lucky leaplings will get to celebrate their birthdays on February 29 in 2012. (See BirthdayGifts.com.au if you know one of these extra special people.) Traditionally in leap years, women are "allowed" to propose to their romantic partners and there are penalties for saying no!
   
• Pancake Day (Shrove Tuesday) is Tuesday 21 February in 2012. It is also a fundraiser for UnitingCare. (See Global Style for personalised aprons and chefs hats for children and adults.)
   
• Australian currency was decimalised on 14 February 1966 - "In come the dollars, in come the cents, to replace the pounds and shillings and the pence." Have an Australian icon party.
